Tomales Bay

On our second, northern road trip we spent a lot more time than it should have technically taken and drove up to Tomales Bay Oyster Farm, a place that was recommended by Angus and which my parents really wanted to visit.

Shona was significantly less impressed with the idea of eating oysters for dinner.

For 9 or fewer people you rock up, buy a bag of oysters, clams or mussels and get shucking! (Groups of 10 or more must make a reservation). There's also barbeques around to use if you prefer your seafood a little less wriggly. They loan you a shucking knife and gloves but gloves are for wimps not hardened Scottish shuckers like the Vajks.

They're open all year round from 9am to 5pm. Great idea although Mum thinks the West Coast of America is a bit better suited to this kind of outdoor dining than the West Coast of Scotland.
