The end of the blog

"Please take me out for a walk..."

From this...

...to this!

Someone got a little overexcited.

It's good to be home :)

New York City

After my wonderful week of actual home cooking and snow based adventures, I went to NYC to meet up with Alfie for *sob* the very last leg of our trip. Seeing as we only had a few days left, we decided to go all out tourist, dragging the all-American, reluctant and embarrassed K with us.

First off was New York City Public Library (can't resist a good library, me).

Then Grand Central Station for lunch.

Chicken, apple and cranberry wrap on spinach tortilla! Unfortunately the Oyster Bar (where my parents ate 20 odd years ago) was closed for refurbishment, but we consoled ourselves with some of the many food stalls down there.

Central Park, Lincoln Centre, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Centre and Times Square all came up as compulsory tourist destinations.

Our last day gave us just enough time for a final slice of pizza before our airport bus...

...and one last Oban Times picture!

Polar vortex

After bidding Angus an early morning goodbye, I caught a flight over to Detroit to see my untrustworthy blogger friend, Kathleen. I always check her blog and there is never anything new; an issue I share with her father apparently! It was crazy cold there, as I'd ludicrously decided to go to Michigan during the worst storm in years. I don't have many photos but I'd like to thank K's family for being the warmest, most welcoming and most fun family I've stayed with since I left Scotland. And for not getting too annoyed at me and K for having a raucous haven't-seen-you-in-a-year party between ourselves on our first night.

I woke up the next day with two dogs trying to force me out of bed and a serious worry that Alfie hadn't made his 3am plane to NYC. Turns out he did (although we didn't find out either way until a couple days later) and K and I went off to have some pretty great sliders.

Sign me up for the next Detroit polar vortex!

Last day!

As lovely as MacVajkmas had been, my parents did actually have a business to get back to, and Shona had studying to do. For their last day we all went to Golden Gate park with Vietnamese take away from The Citrus Club and a paper bag of sweeties from the Fizzary next door.

After we'd all eaten our fill we headed up to the lake for a bit of competitive paddle boating. Despite being boarded by pirates (Angus), the girls boat won, obviously!
