After my exciting Friday with Mr. Beckham I was ready for a quiet weekend... not. I was invited to join the scrum of getting cheap last-minute tickets to the ballet at Opera-Garnier, and as a self-labelled Paris bargain hunter how could I turn down an invitation with the word 'cheap' in it?
The scrum turned out to be more of an incredibly well dressed orderly queue, the kind of queuing you can usually only find in British banks. After some sweet talking to the bouncer who seemed fairly exasperated that I hadn't taken his advice of finding something else to do for the evening, we managed to get our five tickets. The man behind the booth told us we'd only hear the music and not be able to see the stage, but we found various ways to rotate around the stalls to see as much as possible! The building itself was amazing; we stayed so long after the performance looking into all the huge rooms and checking out the ornate doorframes that we were the last ones out.
After the show it was a quick crepe (all I'd eaten that day was birthday cake) before we headed up to Sacre Coeur for the view and a couple of cheap bottles of wine.
Any weekend that has David Beckham, dinner and the ballet all for under 15€ is a success in my book.
